Canyon Creek Heights

Richardson, Texas

The new Canyon Creek Heights North and South student housing facilities were a design-build project for the University of Texas at Dallas. The residential spaces were constructed in two phases totaling 333,885 GSF and offering approximately 800 beds to campus students. Both housing facilities offer contemporary, apartment-style housing and provide a diverse range of housing options for upper division students.

While one building consists primarily of two-person apartments with private bedrooms and bathrooms, the other building consists of mostly four-bed units with varying layouts that contain two shared bedrooms, as well as four individual rooms. Both buildings were designed to offer “off-campus style” with necessary “on-campus support” including full furnishings, community spaces on each level and resident staff members. The buildings offer parking for 150 residents, bicycle storage, outdoor social areas, and close proximity to classrooms and athletic fields.

GarzaEMC provided full civil engineering services for this project. The scope included site planning, grading and drainage, parking lot design, utility design and construction administration services. Site grading was important due to the building footprint, to maintain positive drainage.
