City of San Antonio (COSA) / Fentress Architects
The City of San Antonio (CoSA) Public Safety Headquarters project is a 6-story, 260,000 GSF building, with a nine-level 650-space parking garage. This was a Design-Build project for the City of San Antonio’s Capital Improvements Management Services Department. In order to improve public safety, CoSA united the City’s Police and Fire Departments in this new state-of-the-art Public Safety Headquarters facility. Consolidation of the departments allowed for the co-location of the City’s Public Safety Services, the opportunity for joint operations, shared common spaces and one-stop shopping for the public, while creating much improved facilities for fire and police administrative functions. The building includes new state-of-the-art technology and significant building security measures.
GarzaEMC provided civil engineering for the project. The site civil engineering services included site planning, grading, drainage, utility improvements, and significant coordination with multiple City departments, SAWS and CPS. This project achieved LEED Silver Certification and was also a Low Impact Development project.
This project received the following awards: Design-Build Institute of America, National Design-Build Award, 2013; Downtown’s Best, Best New Public Building, 2013; SABJ Best in Commercial Real Estate, Best Municipal Project, 2012.
